In the IAQ and remediation industry, diagnosing moisture problems and measuring moisture conditions are critical requirements of our profession.
The presentation will employ WUFI-ORNL/IBP, a computer program developed by Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) and Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics (IBP). WUFI-ORNL/IBP software greatly expands our ability to understand heat transfer, moisture movement, and drying in walls and roofs, and goes beyond the limitations of psychrometrics and dew point. Manufacturers and design firms are using this software to demonstrate the suitability of their products or preassembled walls for construction projects with increased frequency. The attendees will become familiar with computer modeling of wall assemblies and be able to understand why a wall design or materials are problematic in a region of the country. Simulations will be used that have elevated moisture at the time of construction, introduce leaks into the wall, and then allow attendees to observe the drying process for wall assemblies
