In 2020, the New Jersey Department of Health released updated guidelines on evaluation and management of mercury-containing floors in schools. While this has been identified as a concern since at least 2004, why is not getting more attention nationwide? What is the history of mercury in gym floors, how did it get there? We will also discuss the successes and challenges that we have encountered while performing this work nationwide.
