Fifty-million Americans suffer from allergy related illnesses. As an IAQ professional, have you ever wondered how you can best provide assistance to your clients who suffer from allergy related illnesses? Though current practices utilize the collection and analysis of static dust particles to assess household allergen levels, the actual triggers of allergic diseases are airborne micron-sized particles that can easily be inhaled into the lungs. In this presentation, we will highlight current methods of allergen collection used in the field, published studies showing benefits of air-based allergen collection, how in-house air samples can be analyzed for allergen concentrations using molecular biological techniques, and how you can integrate such methods into your clients’ IAQ assessments.
