Moisture and mold growth, if left unaddressed for an extended period of time, can cause the paint to bubble on walls and ceilings. Depending on the degree of deterioration, the bottom layers of paint in old buildings, that can contain lead, can peel off and generate dust that can spread to other parts of the building. This issue is of concern in humid climates and hidden places within the building envelope. Remediators and commissioning agents should be especially aware of other contaminants present during mold remediation works. In this presentation, the author will present two cases where lead dust was generated in mold remediation works in old buildings in the tropics.
